Papers concerning the emancipation of Jack and Winney Champayne [manuscript], 1846-1847.

Freedom papers for the slaves Jack and Winney Champayne, husband and wife, and their children, issued as part of the last will and testament of their owner, Elisabeth Carter of King George County, Virginia. The main item includes a transcription affirming their release taken from Carter's will, as well as the signature of Eliza Macfarlane, executor of the will; and the certification of the clerk's office of King George county. Dates range from 1846 September 30 to 1846 November 20. Also included is a brief note from Eliza Macfarlane describing Jack and Winney as "accustomed to house work...well-disposed, quiet and faithful," dated 1847 November 12.
